Manhattan at the Maas

Public area
The municipality of Rotterdam wishes to convert the public area on the Wilhelminapier into a pleasant and attractive area with a double row of trees and with plane-trees along Rijnhavenkade and with the use of natural stone in the pavement. The pavement will be a lively pattern of granite tiles of different sizes. A granite cobblestone strip of 1.5m wide will be built along Rijnhavenkade.
Two squares will be built on either side of New Orleans: Wierdsmaplein, between New Orleans and Montevideo, and Van der Hoevenplein between New Orleans and the San Francisco complex that is yet to be built. These squares will be adorned with beautiful sitting furniture and tubs with huge trees. The natural stone used in front of the New Orleans entrance is also used on the New Orleans façade, making the public area and the building a perfect match. The municipality of Rotterdam and Vesteda have agreed that the work on the public area will coincide with the completion of the apartments.
