Solarbattery at Vesteda
Free Solarbattery
During the coming year, 500 homes in Amsterdam and Diemen will be equipped with a free solarbattery. Zonneplan has already installed free solar panels in these homes. With the home battery, we are offering our tenants the opportunity to use the electricity they generate themselves even more efficiently.
Usage
Optimizing your own electricity consumption
Home batteries store excess solar power, allowing you to use it later in the day, such as in the evening. This increases your own consumption of locally generated electricity and reduces the amount of power supplied back to the network at peak times.
A more stable power system

The pilot will also determine whether home batteries can be deployed on a larger scale within Vesteda’s portfolio. Liander is involved in this rollout to monitor the impact on the local grid and, together with Vesteda and Zonneplan, ensure grid security. In addition, the parties will jointly investigate how the batteries can safely help alleviate broader grid congestion in the future.
The first results of this pilot are expected in the third quarter of 2026.
Frequently asked questions
about the solar battery
When will we receive the solar battery?
It is currently still a pilot program. We would like to investigate if it can be implemented on a larger scale within our housing portfolio. We expect the results of the pilot in the third quarter of 2026.
Why is Vesteda offering a free solar battery?
Vesteda is offering tenants a free home battery so that the solar energy generated by the solar panels can be stored and used when the sun isn’t shining. In doing so, Vesteda enhances living comfort, offers the potential for lower energy costs, and promotes sustainable energy storage.
Will my rent go up if the solar battery is installed?
No, your rent and service charges will not be raised.
I have solar panels from Vesteda and would like to install a solar battery myself. Is that allowed?
No, that is not permitted. Installing a home battery may pose risks that could affect the insurance coverage for the rental property and/or result in the system failing to comply with applicable government regulations or utility company requirements.
